Travelling Low Vision Clinic

On May 29, 2008 Honourable Dave Hancock, Minister of Education announced over $9 million in new funding over the next three years to enhance services for students with vision loss.  The Students with Vision Loss Initiative is focused on building capacity in the education system for an enhanced service delivery model through partnerships and collaborations. Accessible Science Workshop

The Vision Resource Centre – North (VRC-N) hosted an Accessible Science Workshop on Friday, March 6, 2009.  The workshop featured a scientist from CalPoly University, Dr. Dennis Fantin, who has been developing Accessible Science Camps for students with visual impairment in California.  Dr. Fantin was able to offer quite a unique perspective on the topic, given the fact that he is also blind.  Read more about the Accessible Science Workshop...

2009 Canadian Vision Teacher’s Conference to be held in Alberta

From October 18-20, 2009, Banff, Alberta will play host to this year’s Canadian Vision Teacher’s Conference.  The CVTC is a national conference drawing speakers and attendees from all over Canada, the United States and even as far as Europe.  The conference theme – “Climb High Lead the Way” reflects the fact that the conference will be held in a spectacular mountain setting, but it also reminds us of the importance of setting high expectations for ourselves and for our students with vision loss.  CVTC 2009 will feature three pre-conference sessions, including one given by Dr. Lea Hyvarinen, a worl leader in pediatric ophthalmology.  Keynote speakers include: Dr. Tanni Anthony, Mike May, Dr. Kevin Stewart, Dr. Ann MacCuspie, Dr. Cay Holbrook and Larry Campbell.  For more information on this upcoming event, or to see the complete program, click on the following link: Canadian Vision Teachers Conference 2009.
